ESAT: A Complete Preparation Programme

by Oxbridge Solution tutors 15 tutorials · 22.5 hours Cambridge · Imperial · Oxford · UCL Latest syllabus

A complete ESAT preparation programme for engineering, natural sciences and veterinary medicine applicants to Cambridge, Imperial, Oxford and UCL — built module by module around the exact combination each course requires.

The ESAT gives you roughly ninety seconds a question with no calculator, so reaching the right answer is only half the task. Every session trains the mental arithmetic, the elimination strategy and the habit of spotting the fastest valid method — then proves it under timing.

What you'll learn

  • Mathematics 1 in full — the module every ESAT candidate sits
  • Two further modules chosen to match the requirements of your course
  • Ninety seconds a question, no calculator: mental arithmetic and fast elimination
  • How to recognise the common question structures and pick the fastest valid method
  • Official ESAT specimen papers plus ENGAA and NSAA material, re-sorted by topic
  • Full timed mocks in each of your modules, with the most recent papers saved for rehearsal

Course curriculum

The ESAT is modular: every candidate sits Mathematics 1 and most sit two further modules. The fifteen sessions are split evenly across your three, with the topics for each module listed below.

  • 1 Mathematics 1Compulsory — every ESAT candidate sits this module 5 sessions7.5 hrs
  • 2 Second ModuleMathematics 2, Physics, Chemistry or Biology — your choice 5 sessions7.5 hrs
  • 3 Third ModuleMathematics 2, Physics, Chemistry or Biology — your choice 5 sessions7.5 hrs
  • Total 15 sessions22.5 hrs

Modules and topics

Each module is 27 multiple-choice questions in 40 minutes, scored separately from 1 to 9. Confirm the modules your course requires before booking — the choice cannot be changed afterwards without cancelling and re-booking.

Frequently asked questions

Every candidate sits Mathematics 1, then most sit two further modules from Mathematics 2, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Check the exact combination each university course requires before you book — the choice cannot be changed afterwards without cancelling and re-booking the test.
